PSXRecomp Ports
Unofficial, noncommercial PlayStation recompilation releases. Use the platform buttons in the catalog to download an exact Windows, Linux, or macOS package when one is available.
These are deliberately bare recompilations. They do not include per-game enhancements: no widescreen patches, replacement renderers, texture packs, mouselook, wheel/HOTAS support, or similar showcase work. They provide the original game through the standard facilities already supplied by PSXRecomp.
Performance has not been formally profiled. No minimum specification, locked-frame-rate, or laptop-performance claim is being made yet.
What you supply
Each download is an owned-input build kit, not a playable executable. The
kit contains no disc data, retail BIOS, generated game code, generated retail-
BIOS code, or prebuilt title executable. You provide dumps of the matching
original disc from material you own. Wave 1 v0.2.3 kits require the requested
retail BIOS. Wave 2 v0.3.0, v0.3.3, and v0.3.4 kits recommend
a supported retail SCPH BIOS that matches the game's region and include the
approved MIT-licensed OpenBIOS fallback. The kit generates the title on your PC.
The following steps apply to older Windows kits with SETUP.bat.
Use the Wave 4 or Wave 3 setup instructions for the
current packages.
- Download and extract one kit to a normal writable folder such as
Documents\PSXRecomp(notProgram Files). - Double-click
SETUP.batand select Disc 1's CUE plus the requested BIOS. - Wait while the hash-pinned tools are downloaded and the executable is built locally. The first setup can take several minutes.
- Run
PLAY.bat. In the launcher, assign keyboard or a detected gamepad to each visible player card, then choose Play.
Windows may display an Unknown publisher SmartScreen warning for the locally
built executable. After verifying the download, choose More info → Run
anyway if you wish to continue. To verify a kit manually, run
certutil -hashfile <download.zip> SHA256 and compare it with the adjacent
.sha256 file or the release-wide SHA256SUMS.txt.
Wave 4 releases
Wave 4 adds 27 releases at v0.1.0 (26 games; Rival Schools ships its Arcade and
Evolution discs as two kits). Each release provides Windows x64, Linux x64, macOS
Apple Silicon, and macOS Intel setup packages.
These kits require the matching complete Redump CUE/BIN disc set (a CHD of the
same dump is accepted by the kit) and your own BIOS dump for the kit's region:
SCPH-1001 for USA discs (SHA-256
71af94d1e47a68c11e8fdb9f8368040601514a42a5a399cda48c7d3bff1e99d3) or SCPH-5552
for European discs (SHA-256
1faaa18fa820a0225e488d9f086296b8e6c46df739666093987ff7d8fd352c09). Keep each
CUE file and all its tracks together.
- Extract the complete ZIP for your system into a writable folder.
- Start the title's setup program (
.exeon Windows). - Select the matching disc image and the required BIOS.
- Choose Generate & rebuild.
Setup builds a normal and a diagnostic executable. If a game misbehaves, create an
empty diagnostic-mode.txt next to the setup program, reproduce the problem, run
the program with --collect-diagnostics, and attach the resulting zip to a GitHub
issue on that title's repository.
All four packages per title pass native build, generator, and package checks. Windows setup was verified on the exact public package: disc verification, generation, compilation, and a headless start. Play testing of the private builds these kits derive from is recorded in each README's Status section, with the known issues. Gameplay on the public packages, native Linux and macOS setup, and multiplayer remain unverified; macOS executables use ad-hoc signatures and are not Apple notarized.
Wave 3 releases
Wave 3 adds 26 releases at v0.1.0 (78 catalog entries at the time, across the
first three batches). Each release provides Windows x64, Linux x64, macOS Apple Silicon,
and macOS Intel setup packages.
These kits require the matching complete Redump CUE/BIN disc set and your own
SCPH-5552 BIOS dump, including the kits for USA discs. Use the BIOS required by
the kit. Its SHA-256 is
1faaa18fa820a0225e488d9f086296b8e6c46df739666093987ff7d8fd352c09.
Resident Evil 3 also requires the matching owned SBI file for its protected
European disc. Keep each CUE file and all its tracks together.
- Extract the complete ZIP for your system into a writable folder.
- Start the title's setup program (
.exeon Windows). - Select the matching disc CUE file and the required BIOS.
- Choose Generate & rebuild.
Windows setup can download its portable build tools. Linux and macOS need
CMake, Ninja, Python 3, and a C/C++ compiler. Follow the selected release's
instructions for that platform. Compare each ZIP with its release's
SHA256SUMS.txt; RELEASE-MANIFEST.json records the exact packages.
All four packages per title pass native build, generator, and package checks. Windows automated checks cover disc verification, generation, compilation, launch, normal close, and restart. These checks do not establish visual, audio, control, or gameplay quality. Native Linux and macOS setup with owned inputs and gameplay remain unverified. macOS executables use ad-hoc signatures and are not Apple notarized. Wave 3 player counts describe configured launcher slots; multiplayer and netplay remain unqualified. Read the release notes and the title's catalog details for additional limits.
All 26 titles are submitted to RetComM. As of September 7, 2026, catalog acceptance is pending. The SCPH-5552 launcher correction is submitted and still needs upstream merge and distribution. Use the standalone setup packages while that launcher route remains pending.
Wave 2 releases
Wave 2 has 26 source-only setup releases at v0.3.5. Each title has its own
public repository. Each release provides Windows x64, Linux x64, macOS Apple
Silicon, and macOS Intel packages.
Wave 1 releases
Wave 1 has 25 standalone source repositories at v0.1.1. Each release provides
Windows x64, Linux x64, macOS Apple Silicon, and macOS Intel packages. The older
aggregate v0.2.3 release remains available for its original Windows packages.
Use the sortable game catalog to sort by title, region, BIOS, or player count. Select a title there to see screenshots, known issues, and shipped enhancements.
Standard PSXRecomp features
Press F1 in game for fullscreen/window modes, presentation and texture filtering, persistent volume, controller-port routing, session-only Change disc, Reinsert current disc, and controller/keyboard navigation.
Multiplayer packages expose separate player cards in the launcher. Keyboard and gamepads can be assigned independently, including keyboard + controller. The F1 controller-port option swaps existing host assignments between PlayStation ports; it does not select physical devices.
Release-wide limitations
- F1 → Display → Window Scale does not work reliably. Window Scale is separate from internal rendering resolution and does not control supersampling. Close the game and use the pre-launch GUI to change supersampling.
- Local multiplayer metadata is included, but representative Player 2 testing remains unqualified.
- Most titles have an automated startup-survival pass, not an end-to-end game
completion claim. Read the selected release notes and any included
COMPATIBILITY.md. - Performance has not been profiled across representative desktop and laptop hardware.
- Locally built executables are not digitally signed and may trigger Windows SmartScreen.
setup.log,settings.toml, and runtime report JSON files can contain local filesystem paths. Redact them before attaching them to a public issue.

About this project
These ports are developed by a hobbyist (a DevSecOps engineer, not a game programmer) with substantial AI assistance. What keeps that honest: every change is validated before it ships - boot gates, hardware-oracle A/B comparisons (Beetle/DuckStation), deterministic replay probes, and a shared findings registry that documents failures as carefully as successes. AI writes most of the code; the evidence discipline decides what survives. Bug reports welcome - expect them to be investigated the same way.
tl;dr AI writes the code, but I always test it myself before pushing
