OpenSWOS

Sensible World of Soccer, rebuilt in C from the original Amiga game. Same game, same feel, now on Windows (10 or later), macOS, Linux, the Raspberry Pi, the Amiga 1200, Android and iPhone/iPad, with online multiplayer.

<p align="center"><b><a href="https://baker76.itch.io/openswos">Download OpenSWOS on itch.io</a></b></p>

Getting started

Official downloads: baker76.itch.io/openswos, linked from openswos.net. Nowhere else is OpenSWOS's own.

  1. Download it for your computer.
  2. Install it: a step-by-step guide with pictures.

OpenSWOS needs your own copy of Sensible World of Soccer 96/97 (the PC version from GOG is the easiest). The game's graphics, music and teams aren't included: OpenSWOS Setup makes them from your copy, once, and downloads nothing. INSTALL.md shows you how.

What's in it

  • The whole game: friendlies, leagues, cups, the career mode with transfers and management.
  • Online multiplayer: play a friend over the internet (MULTIPLAYER on the main menu).
  • Widescreen at any resolution, fullscreen, CRT effects, gamepads, two players on one computer.
  • The PC and Amiga versions' looks and sounds, and optionally the Atari Jaguar's sprites and SWOS 2020's pitches.
  • A real Amiga version for the A1200/A4000 (AGA), built from the same source code.
  • Android and iPhone/iPad, with on-screen controls or a Bluetooth controller.
  • World 2026-27 (optional): today's clubs, players and competitions, from the SWOS 96/97 Mod -- a download of its own, switched on in OPTIONS → WORLD (INSTALL.md).
  • An arcade (coin-op) mode for cabinets.

Found a bug?

Please report it: github.com/benbaker76/OpenSWOS/issues. Every report helps, however small. Say which version you have (the bottom line of the main menu), what you did and what happened, and attach your SWOS.log (where it is: INSTALL.md). A screenshot or your save helps too.

Contributing

Pull requests are welcome -- small and focused, please, and a big change discussed in an issue first. AI-assisted work too, if you understand and have tested every line. See CONTRIBUTING.md.

  • Ben Baker (github.com/benbaker76) — reverse-engineered the SWOS Amiga 68k assembly in SWOS-RE, which this C port grew out of, and author of the port (originally two trees, SWOS_C for Amiga and SWOS_C_SDL for SDL, merged here into one).
  • Zlatko Karakaš (github.com/zlatkok) — reverse-engineered the original DOS version.
  • Richard Joseph — RJP1 audio engine.
  • gabomdq & contributors — SDL_GameControllerDB.
