Super Mario Bros. (oliveryasuna)
Super Mario Bros.

Super Mario Bros. Recomp
A modding project built on top of the Super Mario Bros. disassembly by doppelganger.
Prerequisites
- asm6f — place the
asm6fbinary in the project root - A dumped Super Mario Bros. NES ROM (
smb.nes)
Setup
-
Place your
smb.nesROM in the project root. -
Extract the CHR (character/graphics) ROM data:
make extract_characterThis produces
mario.chrfrom the original ROM.
Building
make assemble
The assembled ROM is written to out/smb.nes. Without any modifications to the source, this produces a byte-for-byte identical ROM to the original.
The build process strips the .index and .mem directives from SMBDIS.ASM before assembling. These are x816 (65816 assembler) directives that set 8-bit mode, which is a no-op on the NES's 6502 CPU and unsupported by asm6f.
